Have you heard? Austin has moved from recession to recovery, according to the Adversity Index, which means the data on jobs, manufacturing and housing grew from six months earlier. Austin made the move along with 79 of the nation’s 384 metro areas.

In a report that was released in April 2009, Austin surpassed four other Texas cities to be named #1 for Best Big Cities for Jobs in the nation. The Texas cities/areas that fell behind Austin were Plano/Irving, Ft. Worth/Arlington, San Antonio and Houston/Sugar Land/Baytown. The service sectors like education, health, leisure and hospitality among others grew tremendously over the previous months to help boost Austin to the top of the national ranking.

Additionally, Austin boasts two great assets, it is a state capital and home to a major research university. A third factor that increases Austin’s success~ it is located in a fast growing mega-state. With low taxes and low regulation at the state level, Texas remains a great location for public sector employment and private sector growth.
