If you haven’t noticed, spring has finally arrived. With temperatures already in the 70s, it’s time to leave your new homes in Austin for some fun-filled days in the sun. March is the perfect month to discard your winter clothes and don your spring apparel as it is full of many fun activities. Below are a few of the festivals this month has to offer.

Zilker Park Kite Festival

Whether you’re a kite connoisseur or can’t even get one off the ground, you’ll love this family-friendly, free festival on March 6 at Zilker Park. The event will include kite making workshops and demonstrations, a kite flying contest, delicious food vendors, moon walks, rock wall climbing, face painting and more. Festival booths open at 10 a.m. and registration for the kite contest begins at 11 a.m. For more information, visit the Zilker Park Kite Festival website.

St. Patrick’s Day Outdoor Festival

You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy Austin’s largest St. Patrick’s Day Outdoor Festival on Thursday, March 17 on 4th Street in front of Fado Irish Pub and Restaurant. The pub is closing down the street and setting up an outdoor tent, beer garden and performance area for the best entertainment, pints and “craic” that Austin has to offer. Doors open for breakfast at 6 a.m. and the street festival starts at noon. In addition to great food and drink, you’ll enjoy the best line-up of music with bands including Mysterious Ways, Think Lizzy, Eamonn O’Connor and LC Rocks to name a few. For more information, visit the Fado Irish Pub and Restaurant website.

Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival

The Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival has been the Southern United States’ leading foodie celebration for 25 years. The event spans four days, March 31 through April 3, and features more than two dozen wine and food events throughout Austin. The 2011 program is too extensive to list here; for more information, visit the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival website.
