Now that you are enjoying your beautiful Austin Custom Home, make sure you know the best way to care for your gorgeous granite or stone countertops. Granite countertops will retain their natural beauty if you treat them with a reasonable amount of basic care. Follow these tips from Bob Scanlon with Renaissance Stone Works, LLC to keep your stone surfaces looking their best.
- Clean the counter top with warm water and a few drops of mild or antibacterial dishwashing detergent. Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Don’t use abrasive dry or soft cleaners or those containing harsh chemicals like ammonia.
- Granite can take hot pans, but not hot fat. Avoid placing anything with hot cooking oils on the counter top.
- Avoid cutting directly on granite. It doesn’t hurt the granite; however, it dulls the knives.
- We recommend that you reseal the countertop every 1 to 2 years for
lighter colors, and at longer intervals for darker colors. You can purchase a stone sealer at home stores such as Home Depot. - A simple weekly maintenance routine is recommended. A good product to use for this is StoneWash and can be found at home stores such as Home Depot. This product cleans and conditions natural stone surfaces. It removes grease, dirt, stains, and scuffmarks while reducing water spotting, and its unique, natural pH formula won’t harm stone.
