Recently, we began the process of pouring the slab for our clients, the Johnson’s, in The Reserve at Lake Travis. This lakefront Austin home has a large, 10 car garage built underneath the main level, so the slab will be poured in three stages. Talk about unique Austin custom homes! The first stage, which you are seeing here, is the lower slab. The next pour will be to create the vertical slab wall that will be placed in front of the cut you can see in the pictures. The third pour will be to tie in the upper slab.

Homes such as these are found often in Austin and are very popular for our custom clients who are building on lots that slope from front to back. This allows us to work with the topography rather than against it and always creates great views from the main level of the home. In this instance there will be a garage underneath the main level, but many times we will design the home so that the secondary bedrooms, Gameroom or even the Study are below the main level.

This home will look like a two-story structure from the street because the secondary bedrooms and Gameroom are above the main level. From the lake you will be able to see that it is a three-story home.

There are some special treatments that are required to make sure water doesn’t penetrate that vertical slab wall. Many of our clients seek us out for tricky designs such as this one. Having built custom homes in the Austin area for over twenty years, we have the experience and expertise needed to tackle any challenging project.
