A Realtor at a recent seminar approached me after the session and explained her system for recommending a Texas custom home builder to her clients. She said that she has kept phone books from years past and that she simply pulls out a local phone book from ten years ago and asks her clients to see if they recognize any of the names in the Custom Home builder section. What a great idea!
She told me that Sterling Custom Homes was the only builder that she recognized from that old phone book. It actually makes a good point – some builders like to say that they’ve been in business for a long time, but have they been in and out of business several times? Have they operated a successful business for a long period of time, through several difficult economic cycles? Have they changed their name due to financial issues? Will they be there for you not only to complete your project, but also to provide the service you expect in the years to come?
While we have recommended more scientific methods to research for a custom home builder, I must say that the “old phonebook” approach makes a lot of sense!
