The Wiktionary defines a Casita as “A small, attached but self-contained house or apartment.” We first learned of this charming space on a design idea trip to Palm Springs, California in 2002. We immediately fell in love with the concept and incorporated the innovative feature into a Showcase Home concept we were developing for the 2004 Flintrock Falls Showcase of Homes.

Obviously the concept was extremely well received as we have included this feature in countless Austin custom homes since then. For us, the definition of a true Casita is a Guest Suite that has no interior entrance into the main home living area. A hybrid of this concept that we have since developed includes an outdoor entry into a Guest Suite that also has a secondary inside doorway leading into a hallway inside the main living area of the home.

For Empty-Nesters, the Casita becomes a resort-like retreat for out of town guests, family members and even live-in caregivers. Now, Cousin Eddy won’t have to pull the RV into the driveway when visiting for the Holidays!

Our Casitas often include special added features such as Sitting Areas, Coffee Bars and opulent Bath and Shower spaces to accent the sleeping area. Let us make your Casita a fabulous addition to your Austin custom home design. But beware, guests are likely to visit more often and stay much longer when treated to such grand accommodations!
