The recent freezing temperatures are unusual for the Austin, Texas area. It’s especially rare to have several consecutive days where the temperatures stay below freezing. The Austin custom homes in this area are primarily designed to combat the summer heat rather than deal with consecutive days of freezing temperatures. We caution our homeowners to wrap outside hose bibs and take special care of outdoor plumbing in areas such as Summer Kitchen’s and Water Features.
To deal with just such an occasion, some of our clients have asked us to install a whole-house plumbing cut-off. This is a valve, usually located in the garage, which allows the homeowner to cut the water off to the whole house without having to go out to the meter valve, which is usually buried at the street. In homes using the PEX Plumbing system, we can even install a manifold system which allows the homeowner to discontinue the water supply to specific areas of the home while permitting water flow to the rest of the home.
As a new home builder in Austin for more than 20 years, we have the experience to suggest many money-saving features that benefit our homeowners for years to come.
