You may have seen them flying around your Austin luxury real estate at night. Love them or hate them, bats are an important part of our ecosystem. And, once again you can celebrate all things bats, plus a few extra things, at the 7th Annual Batfest and Night of the Bat on Saturday, Aug. 27 on the Congress Avenue Ann Richards Bridge from 1 p.m. to midnight.

Sponsored by the city of Austin, this free event is open to the whole family. Set among the scenic backdrop of Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin, Batfest will feature arts, crafts, food, bat watching, children’s activities and educational displays. There will also be live music from The Black & White Years, Alpha Rev and Filter to name a few.

If shopping is more your thing, then stop by the more than 150 booths in the festival area featuring unique offerings from professional artists and craftspeople. Some of the items you’ll find include pottery, jewelry, fine art, woodwork, stained glass, photography and more.

If you want to watch the bats, make sure to arrive early. Bats usually start flying between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. However, they are unpredictable creatures, and you don’t want to miss the spectacular sight.
