With the mercury continuing to rise outside your luxury homes in Austin, it’s time once again for the Austin Ice Cream Festival. This 6th annual event will take place on August 4th from 10am to 7pm at Fiesta Gardens. This festival will take you back to the glory days of running outside with pennies, nickels, and dimes in hand as soon as you hear those all too familiar monophonic childhood songs playing from the neighborhood ice cream truck. The festival creates a family friendly atmosphere, complete with games, music and contests for all to enjoy. Where else can you try such a variety of ice cream for $10 (kids 8 and under are free)? I’ll give you a hint…nowhere!

Although your kids and grandkids might experience the sugar-rush of their lives, there are plenty of attractions to keep them entertained. Families are encouraged to participate in the Homemade Ice Cream Making Contest. Bring your ice cream maker and ingredients and show the rest of the city what you’re made off. Premade ice cream is not allowed, so you have to prepare your creation on the festival grounds. See the official rules here!

What better way to combat a sugar high, than a popsicle stick construction contest? With this event it’s ok to bring your masterpiece from home, as long as the main construction materials are popsicle sticks. Adhesives are allowed, but pre-notched popsicle sticks are not. This contest is free for all ages.

The most prestigious contest to win is the Ice Cream Eating Contest. World Champion Hot Dog Eating Champion, Joey Chestnut is a former winner of this contest, so participation is not for the faint of heart.  $10 gets you the chance to see how fast you can eat a whole gallon of ice cream. Good luck!

We hope you have a blast at the Austin Ice Cream Festival this year!
