red curtainAlthough the cold Texas winter nights may have you staying indoors in the evening, it’s time to emerge from your Lake Travis custom homes to experience theatre like you’ve never seen it before: The 18th annual FronteraFest 2011 is happening now at Hyde Park Theatre.

FronteraFest is fringe theatre. What is fringe theatre, you may ask? It’s anything off-the-wall, alternative, offbeat, new or not in the mainstream. All you can expect is the unexpected.

There are several ways to experience FronteraFest. You can choose to attend The Short Fringe from now until Feb. 12. Every night you can come out to see four or five plays that last no longer than 25 minutes each. These can include monologues, plays in progress, comedy improv, cabaret singers, dancers, short films and multimedia productions to name a few. Weekly performances are $14 a person, Best of Week performances are $16 and Best of Fest performances are $18. You can also attend The Long Fringe from now until Jan. 30 at Salvage Vanguard Theater and at the Blue Theatre. These productions are 90 minutes or less and include new works from emerging playwrights to avant-garde choreography. Ticket prices for these shows range from $5 to $15 per person.

In addition to The Short Fringe and The Long Fringe, FronteraFest offers B.Y.O.V. (Bring Your Own Venue) and Mi Casa Es Su Teatro for your enjoyment. To view the playbill, show times or to purchase tickets, visit the FronteraFest 2011 website.

Although you can’t make it to a live theatre performance every day, Texas custom home builder, Sterling Custom Homes, can design a media room that will make you feel like you’re having a night out on the town while remaining in the comfort of your home.
